SHOWER SCREENS MIDVALE

Low Iron Narrow Reeded Shower Screen Installed in Midvale

We supply and install glass splashbacks in Midvale and its surrounding areas.

This bathroom is bright, white and finished floor to ceiling in marble-look tile, so the glass was always going to be noticed. Standard clear glass would have been fine, but the owners went a step further and chose low iron, in a narrow reeded pattern for privacy.

The result is a screen that gives them the privacy they wanted without exerting a colour influence into a room built around clean, neutral colour.

Privacy Without Losing the Light

The reeding runs vertically down the full height of both panels. It breaks whatever is behind the glass into narrow strips, so shapes soften, colours blur and detail disappears. From the rest of the bathroom, you see the shower is in use and very little else.

It is worth being clear about what that means. Reeded glass softens the view rather than blocking it. Someone standing right against the glass, or lit strongly from behind, can still show as an outline. For most bathrooms that is all the privacy needed. Where complete privacy matters, satin etched glass obscures the view entirely.

What the reeding does not do is block the light. This shower has a window inside it, and the daylight from that window passes straight through the glass into the rest of the room. The shower stays private and the bathroom stays bright.

Why Low Iron and Not Standard Clear

Standard clear glass is not quite colourless. Iron occurs naturally in the raw materials it is made from, and it leaves a faint green cast in the finished glass. The thicker the glass, the more noticeable it becomes, and frameless screens are 10mm thick. You see it most along the exposed edges, where the colour concentrates through the full thickness of the panel.

Low iron glass is made with the iron content reduced, so it carries far less of that green. In most rooms the difference is subtle. In a room like this one, with white tile on every wall and floor, it is not. A green edge or tint has nowhere to hide against white.

Here, there is nothing competing with the room. The tiles stay white, the neutral tones stay true, and the only thing your eye goes to is the pattern in the glass.

The Full Range

Fluted glass is one of several options we offer across frameless and semi-frameless screens, alongside clear, low iron and satin etched glass, with a range of fixture finishes including brushed nickel. You can see more of our fluted glass shower screen installations across Perth.

Shower Screens in Midvale

Midvale is a suburb split between the City of Swan and the Shire of Mundaring, developed in the early 1950s and named as a composite of Midland and the former Helena Vale Racecourse, which operated from the 1890s until the late 1960s. The Great Eastern Highway forms its southern boundary, and most of the suburb is residential, with parks including Elder Park, Moir Park, Morrison Park and Salisbury Park.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The reeded pattern always faces the outside of the screen, so the side that takes the water is flat and wipes down like any other panel.

Yes. The two terms are used interchangeably for glass with vertical ribs pressed into one face. Narrow reeded is the name of the pattern used in this Midvale bathroom. Most people searching for it call it fluted glass.

No. It is still glass, so light passes through it, and the room carries on visually beyond the screen instead of stopping at it. The view is softened, not blocked, so the shower still reads as part of the bathroom rather than a closed-off box.

It depends on the personal taste of the individual and how keen they are to get as clear a glass as they can with minimal green hue influence on the bathroom.
